Safe and Healthier Foods

As obesity rates climb to epidemic levels, biotechnology is helping to create a new generation of healthier foods so that people have a healthier diet that will allow them to have a better life without diseases. So with new technologys some types of foods can be modified genetically to improve some bad features of foods to eliminate them.

Some of the areas where biotechnology has proved very effective in environmental clean-up include:

• Landfill Technologies: In all the cities in the world people make a lot of wastes and a common method for disposing off such biodegradable waste is the low-cost Anaerobic Landfill Technology. In this process, the solid wastes are deposited in a plce where are housed a wide variety of bacteria, some of which are capable of degrading different types of wastes. The only shortcoming in this process is that these bacteria take a considerably long time to degrade the waste.
• Pollution Control:With the help of modem biotechnology, occurring biocatalysts can be used to detoxify harmful chemicals being released into the environment. There are special bacterias which consumes the noxious chemical and convert it to water, carbon dioxide and salts.
• Restoration of Deforested Areas: Increasing human activity has created problems in Earth’s well-balanced ecosystem. Biotechnological tools are being used for restoring the degraded ecosystem and consist in reforestation, involving micropropagation which has allowed to increase the number of plants faster than naturally.

Biodefense and Public Safety:Advances in biological research likely will permit development of a new class of advanced biological warfare agents engineered to produce new effects. Such new agents and delivery systems would provide a variety of new use options. For example, with the current corona virus, which appeared in China, and according to some people, in the city of wuhan there is a laboratory in which biological weapons are tested and it is possible that the virus mutation was created infected so many people.
